A menstrual equity program for women & girls in the Kentuckiana area.
Why period equity?
People who menstruate are a fact of life, yet this basic function still carries a stigma. Unfortunately, this means that even in this highly developed country of ours menstruation is one more way to separate the haves from the have nots. Poverty, homelessness and incarceration have led to an inability for people who menstruate to provide for their own health care in a dignified way. Lack of sanitation, running water, privacy, and money contribute to loss of work, reduced school attendance, shame and serious health issues.

What's In a Period Kit?
A period kit includes enough pads and tampons for one cycle plus hand sanitizer or wipes and a couple of pieces of chocolate. For our homeless clientele we also include a 1 gallon ziploc bag and a chapstick.
The Politics
Although we are extremely interested in the politics of period equity, in its startup phase the Ky. Period Project is aimed squarely at providing product to sisters in need. As we grow we will become involved in other aspects of this fight. In addition, it is our sincere hope that we could eventually offer organic and more sustainable products. In reality, we will accept any items that can be safely used. Menstrual cups are a savior for landfills but not necessarily feasible for those without access to running water or privacy. In all things we are trying to be practical and serve as many people as we can. We also welcome the opportunity to serve the menstruating community as a whole, including cisgender, transgender and non-binary people.
